Highland County

Highland County is the most mountainous county in the region, with elevation and isolation that live up to its name. Highland is known for its scenic beauty, its Annual Maple Festival, and its recreational opportunities. Although it is almost exclusively rural, it does not have much value for high value agricultural activity, although in forestry, the county is fairly important. The value of timber harvested in Highland County has increased over 300% between 1986 and 2000.

Highland County currently has 1,731 acres under conservation easement.
