Valley Conservation Council Annual Picnic and Membership Meeting, September 12, 2008
![]() |
This year we're at Widow Pence Farm in Rockingham County, just a few miles outside of Harrisonburg. The farm is beautifully maintained by the Cross Keys/Goods Mill Historical Society. This 50 acre tract, protected by the Civil War Preservation Trust, boasts one of the few remaining pre-Civil War structures in the Cross Keys area. |
From Harrisonburg:
Take the JMU exit (245) off I-81 and head east on Port Republic Road. You'll come to a light at Route 276 (Cross Keys Road. Go straight through that light and continue about 1.7 miles. Look for 6991 Port Republic Road on the left. We'll have it well marked with signs.
An alternative from the north would be to go east off the Interstate at the Route 33 (Exit 247) and then turn right at the light at Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) and left at the light onto Port Republic Road. Again, 1.7 miles, look for 6991 Port Republic Road on the left.
An alternative from Staunton that avoids the JMU/Harrisonburg evening traffic is to get off at Weyers Cave and head east, then turn left (north) on 276 at the light. You'll follow this for 7.2 miles up to the light at Port Republic Road and turn right (east). Widow Pence Farm is about 1.7 miles on the left.
An alternative from Waynesboro is to head up Route 340 to Port Republic (about 15 miles) and turn left onto 276. Go 5 miles and 6991 Port Republic Road is on the right.
